Did you know that up to 60% of the human adult body is water? Well, it is true. Many of our organs are composed of more than 50% of water, including our brain, lungs, heart, even our bones, but today we will focus on the skin.

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and it is composed of 64% of water. The skin is made up of skin cells, and skin cells are also made up of water. Therefore, it is crucial for this organ to receive water so the cells can function properly. If we are not giving our cells the necessary amount of water they need, our skin could turn into very dry, tight and flaky skin.

You might ask yourself, how much water do I need to drink to keep my skin hydrated?

For years we have heard that we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day, and many people have stuck to this rule.

Additionally, other people believe that you should drink the amount of water that is relative to your height and weight. We could find hydration calculators like this one:

However, there are not enough studies that back up the importance of drinking extra water for skin hydration, despite the connection between water and the skin.

Im not a doctor, nor a researcher, but I am a firm believer that the more water you drink the better your skin looks. I say this because I have seen the benefits that water intake does for a better looking skin. I have had friends who had suffered from serious acne problems, and they were able to reduce the amount of blemishes simply by increasing their intake of water. Water is very important for our overall health, and that is why we should drink water as often as we can.

I personally drink a half-gallon of water a day. Wherever I go, I have it with me, and sometimes when I finish it before the end of the day, I refill it and I keep on drinking. I have to admit that I go to the bathroom constantly, but thats is good because I am eliminating many of the toxins that my body might have.

I know many people who say that they don't like the taste of water - which is weird because water doesn't have much of a taste - and to them I always tell them that the best way to put some flavor into your water is by adding some lemon to it. Lemons are not only a good source of Vitamin C, but they also help you with your immune system, while cleansing your system. So, it's a nice flavor and an added health benefit.

As you can see water is very important for your health, and for a healthy skin. However, we not only have to drink water to keep our skin hydrated. It is crucial that you always use a topical moisturizer daily so that way you can hydrate your skin from the the outside as well. Also, try to protect your skin as much as possible from the sun. Use sunblock daily and reapply every two hours. And, during very hot days don't forget to use a water facial spray for added hydration.

Here my three favorite products to keep my face hydrated:
